Sofia University triumphs at human rights competition in Dublin

DUBLIN: Sofia University won the best team award at the Regional Round of the Helga Pedersen Moot Court Competition in Dublin on Feb. 23-25, the University said.

The competition is organized annually by the European Law Student Association in cooperation with the Council of Europe, simulates procedures of complaint before the European Court of Human Rights and gives participants the opportunity to interact practically with the European Convention on Human Rights.

Janin Al-shargabi, Albena Dzhambazova and Eduard Kayn, with coaches Petya Adzhopova and Zineti Yetim, successfully presented their oral pleadings in competitive matches with teams from Polish and German universities.

Al-shargabi won the individual award for the best speaker at the regional round.

Teams from all over Europe took part in three regional rounds of the competition – in Dublin, in St Gallen (Switzerland) and in Ankara.

Eighteen of them will be selected to plead in the Final Oral Round, which will take place at the European Court of Hu
man Rights in Strasbourg, France, on May 27-31.

The results from the regional rounds count towards the selection of the teams going to the Final Oral Round.
