malaysiangManila: Tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) no. 1 is still hoisted over some parts of Northern Luzon even as Typhoon Julian heads towards Southern Taiwan, the weather bureau said Wednesday afternoon.
Areas still placed under Signal No. 1 are Batanes, Babuyan Islands (Babuyan Is., Calayan Is., Dalupiri Is., Fuga Is.), and the northern and western portions of Ilocos Norte (Bangui, Burgos, Pagudpud), which are forecast to continue experiencing strong winds.
Julian was last tracked 275 km. west northwest of Itbayat, Batanes, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), according to the 5 p.m. bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
The typhoon packs maximum sustained winds of 165 kph near the center, and gustiness of up to 205 kph.
Gale warning is hoisted over the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon.
Sea travel is risky for most types or tonnage of vessels, including all small seacrafts and motorbancas, the bulletin said.

SA said Julian may become a remnant low on weekend “while still within PAR but relatively far from any part if the country.”
