Selangor To Take On FT In Mixed Team Badminton Final


SIBU, The Selangor and Federal Territories (WP) badminton squads will sweat it out for the gold medal after defeating their respective opponents in the semifinals of the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) which took place at the Sibu Indoor Stadium. today.

The Federal Territory team easily beat Penang 3-0 with Ong Xin Yee securing the first point from the women’s singles after defeating Oo Shan Zi, 21-12, 21-12 in straight sets.

Justin Hoh Shou Wei also had no problem defeating Penang’s Sng Wei Ming in the men’s singles with a score of 21-15, 21-16 while the mixed doubles pair of Low Han Chen-Odelia Wong ensured FT’s third point by beating Ong Zhen Yi-Tan Zhing Yi 21-9, 21-18 in straight sets.

‘In the match, we remained focused and calm and did not rush. The game was quite intense, so we tried not to make simple mistakes and finally managed to win,’ Odelia Wong told reporters after successfully collecting the winning point for FT.

Host Sarawak meanwhile, failed to take advantage of playing in front of their own
supporters when they lost 0-3 to Selangor and will now face Penang in the bronze medal deciding match tomorrow.

Selangor’s first point was contributed by the state’s women’s singles ace K. Letshanaa who easily defeated Megan Tan Zhi Yi 21-3, 21-13.

However, the battle for the second point was an intense affair as Selangor’s men’s singles ace Chua Kim Sheng had to dig deep into his reserves to overcome Sarawak’s Goh Shun Huat 20-22, 21-14, 21-15 after a three-set thriller.

With the outcome almost settled, Wong Vin Sean-Ho Lo Ee made sure of all three points for Selangor by overcoming Jeremy Zhen Liang-Kashley Kho Tze Yin 21-13, 21-12 in straight sets.

‘The women’s singles match was not really a tough affair..I was just trying to pick up momentum and pace before tomorrow’s final. However, in the second set, I made a lot of mistakes. Anyway, overall I am happy with today’s performance,’ Letshanaa told reporters here.
