Sarawak’s Wong Hee Sieng Joins MAVCOM

The Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) has appointed Datu Wong Hee Sieng as its new member, effective Aug 16, 2024.

In a statement today, the commission said the Sibu Division Resident replaces Datuk Alice Jawan Empaling, who has announced her intention to step down on June 13, 2024, after retiring from her position as Sarawak Transport Ministry permanent secretary.

‘Wong’s appointment marks a strong addition to MAVCOM, as the commission continues its efforts to promote a sustainable, consumer-focused, and competitive civil aviation sector in Malaysia,’ said Mavcom.

Meanwhile, MAVCOM executive chairman Datuk Seri Saripuddin Kasim said Wong’s vast experience in public service and leadership in transport-related fields will contribute greatly to the commission’s ongoing efforts to foster a dynamic and competitive aviation landscape.

Wong was appointed by the Minister of Transport upon consultation with the prime minister, under Section 5(1)(c) of the Malaysian Aviation Commission Act 2015.

Currently,
he serves as the Sarawak Transport Ministry’s permanent secretary, effective June 5, 2024, and brings over three decades of experience in public administration.

MAVCOM said Wong’s distinguished career includes significant leadership roles such as chairman of the Sarawak Buoys and Light Board and the Sarawak Road Safety Council executive chairman.
