KUALA LUMPUR: The highly anticipated space launching site in Sabah could establish Malaysia as the leading country in ASEAN in terms of technological advancement, stated Ukraine’s deputy economy minister, Taras Kachka. This significant development is expected to generate job opportunities and attract global talent, contributing to the growth of Malaysia’s aviation and aerospace industries.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kachka highlighted that high-tech projects not only create employment but also facilitate the transfer of technology, ensuring that highly trained engineers remain in the country. “If there is a space launching site here in Malaysia, people from all over the world would come and participate in this project, placing Malaysia in the position of being ASEAN’s technology leader,” he expressed during a media conference.
The Sabah government had previously signed an agreement with a Ukrainian and a local firm to assess the feasibility of establishing a space launch facility in the state. Althou
gh Kachka did not reveal the investment cost of the project, he discussed various aspects that need consideration, such as economic viability, environmental concerns, and long-term benefits.
Kachka expressed hope that the Sabah government would demonstrate the necessary political will to advance the space project. He emphasized the importance of having adequate resources, expertise, and a trained workforce to ensure the project’s success.
