Sabah Bowling Juniors Aim To Deliver Gold For State At SUKMA

KOTA KINABALU, Sabah bowlers Nabil Aiman, 21 and Nur Jeehan Iezzaty, 19, are determined to overcome all challenges to bring home gold medals for their state at the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Sarawak.

College student Nabil’s commitment to the sport is evident in how he balances his time between training and his studies, and the youngest of three siblings admitted that it was tough to juggle both.

‘A personal sacrifice for me is when I have training or competitions outside the state, like in Kuala Lumpur or Sarawak, I would take my laptop to finish my assignments,’ he told Bernama recently, adding that he was determined to end his SUKMA experience by winning the gold medal in his third and final appearance at the Games.

Nabil failed to secure any medals in his previous two SUKMA appearances but has won bronze medals in the Under 25 Division and Open Division categories of the Sarawak International Open 2024 as well as a silver at the Sarawak International Open 2023 (Under 25 Division).

Meanwhile Nur Je
ehan, 19, is confident that her experience from past major championships will help her clinch the gold medal when she makes her SUKMA debut, along with younger sister Nur Aleeya Syakirah, 18.

‘My target is to win the gold. Although I’m nervous, I’m confident in bringing home a medal for Sabah,’ she said as she admitted that she has gone through her own ups and downs but never gave up on training hard to represent Sabah.

‘I’m thankful to be chosen to compete in the Sarawak SUKMA, and I will do my best for my state,’ she added.

SUKMA’s bowling competition will be held at Megalanes Sarawak, Kuching from Aug 14 to 20.
