RTU, De La Salle, PhilSCA rule ROTC Games-Luzon

MANILA: Rizal Technological University-Mandaluyong collected 42 gold, 18 silver and seven bronze medals to rule the Philippine Army division of the Philippine Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Games Luzon leg in Indang, Cavite on Saturday.

Most of the gold medals came from arnis, taekwondo, boxing, athletics and swimming.

Alvin Marticion contributed six golds after topping the boys’ 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly, 50m freestyle, 200m Individual Medley, 200m relay and 200m freestyle relay events at the De La Salle University-Dasmariñas pool.

University of Baguio finished second with nine golds, five silvers and one bronze, followed by Polytechnic University of the Philippines (6-8-6), Central Bicol State University of Agriculture-Pili (4-6-3), and Don Honorio Ventura University (4-5-3).

“The ROTC Games Luzon leg is the biggest qualifying of the ROTC Games,” Senator Francis Tolentino, honorary chairperson of the executive organizing committee, said.

Meanwhile, De La Salle University-Manila ruled the P
hilippine Navy division with 27 golds, including five each from swimmers Kirk Dominique Reyes and Janelle Kyla Chua. The Green Archers also got seven silvers and four bronzes.

Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific placed second with 19 golds, 15 silvers and 26 bronzes, followed by Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (12-13-8), Manuel Enverga University Foundation (8-13-3), and Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation (7-4-1).

In the Philippine Air Force division, Philippine State College of Aeronautics (PhilSCA) hauled 22 golds, 17 silvers and 12 bronzes, followed by the Philippine State College of Aeronautics-FAB (19-17-15), Fullbright College (11-5-5), Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Lipa (8-5-4) and PATTS College of Aeronautics (6-1-3).

The gold and silver medalists in the Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao legs will advance to the national finals on Aug. 18 to 24, also in Indang.

A total of 77 colleges and universities participated in the Luzon leg of the tournament supported by the Department of National Defense, Co
mmission on Higher Education and Philippine Sports Commission.
