RM112 MLN PEOPLE’S HOUSING PROJECT IN LABUAN NEARS COMPLETION

The RM112 million People’s Housing Project (PPR) at Jalan Batu Arang, Tanjung Aru here is nearing completion and is set to be ready for occupancy next year.

Project manager Norsalmiza Mohammad of RD Resources, the developer for the project, said despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and logistical issues related to building materials, the development was now 94 per cent complete, and scheduled for completion in April 2024.

She said the construction of the project under the Ministry of Local Government Development (KPKT), which consists of 500 units of apartments housed in two 13-storey blocks, commenced in January 2018.

Each unit, measuring 700.19 square feet, features three rooms, catering to the housing needs of the B40 group.

“The project, initially scheduled for completion in April 2021, faced delays due to movement restrictions imposed by the pandemic and the necessity of sourcing building materials from mainland Sabah and the Peninsula,” she said to Bernama today.

Norsalmiza expressed confidence in the progress of the project, emphasising the concerted efforts being made to expedite its completion.

“We are working round-the-clock to speed up the project to ensure there will be no delay in completing the project,” she said.

The housing facility is designed to provide essential amenities to its residents, including a community hall, surau (prayer hall), kindergarten, shophouses, and a children’s playground.

“Despite the challenges faced during the construction period, the development team remains committed to delivering a high-quality living space for the community.

The completion of this project will mark a significant milestone, providing affordable and comfortable housing options to the residents of this duty-free island.
