RHB Bank founder Abdul Rashid Hussain appointed UTeM Pro Chancellor

MELAKA, RHB Banking Group founder Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Hussain has been appointed as the Pro Chancellor of Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) with effect from May 1 until 30 April 2027.

UTeM in a statement today announced that Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Ali Rustam, who is also UTeM Chancellor, presented Abdul Rashid’s appointment letter yesterday.

“”The appointment of Abdul Rashid is in line with the momentum of excellence of UTeM which continues to forge various glorious successes in the country and also make a name on the world stage,” said the statement.

Abdul Rashid is the founder of the RHB Group which started as stockbroking company Rashid Hussain Securities Sdn Bhd in 1983 before expanding it to become one of the largest integrated financial services groups in Malaysia.

Previously, he was a Board Member and the first Chairman of the Executive Committee of Khazanah Nasional Berhad from 1994 to 1998, in addition to being appointed as the Chairman of Putrajaya Holdings from 1995 to
2000.

Abdul Rashid also served on the Board of Directors of Malaysian Airline System Berhad from 1993 to 1997 and Cycle and Carriage Bintang Bhd from 1993 to 2008.

As a founding member and Chairman of the Prime Minister of Malaysia’s Fellowship Exchange Foundation established in 1993, Abdul Rashid played an important role in fostering a culture of education and lifelong learning across all fields.

Most recently, he was also appointed as the Chairman of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) starting December 2023.
