Reopening of murder case comforts ex-PCSO exec’s family

ILOILO CITY – The family of former Philippine Charity Sweepstake Office (PCSO) board secretary Wesley Bayaruga is hopeful that they will be able to find justice after all as they thanked the Quad Committee at the House of Representatives and witnesses who braved to testify on his murder case.

‘This gives us comfort even while we know that we are still far from receiving justice,’ the family said in a statement released to the local media on Wednesday.

The family said that during the last four years, the former PCSO official’s case has taken a backseat, and they believed that something is working now.

‘We believe that this is God’s way of serving justice and clearing Wesley A. Barayuga’s name whose case was alleged to be drug-related in a desperate attempt to cover up their tracks,’ the statement added.

Philippine National Police chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil on Sept. 29 ordered the reinvestigation of the killing of Barayuga, a retired general and director of the Iloilo City Police Office from 2006 t
o 2008.

He was gunned down by a motorcycle-riding gunman along Calbayog St. in Barangay Highway Hills, Mandaluyong City, in July 2020.

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, in a statement, said he has no complaints against Barayuga.

“He was one of the good-performing city directors under me during my first term as mayor. It’s a pity for Col. Wesley,’ Treñas said.
