Police improving strategies vs. illegal drugs

TACLOBAN: The Philippine National Police (PNP) is reviewing its strategies in fighting illegal drugs as traders have already adapted to existing policies.

PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil said he has met with key officials from operations and intelligence to check areas for improvement.

‘Our old strategy works, but traders are aware of it and they adapted to it. We must improve our campaign plan, focusing on sources and suppliers. Illegal drug traders have been changing their strategies,’ he told reporters during his visit here on Tuesday.

The PNP reported the seizure of 400 grams of shabu worth PHP2.7 million from a drug courier in Ormoc City, Leyte on April 18.

A day prior, police officers also confiscated 325 grams of illegal drugs worth PHP2.2 million from a big-time dealer in Panglao, Bohol.

On April 15 in Alitagtag, Batangas, 1.4 tons of shabu with an estimated value of PHP9 billion were seized at a checkpoint.

It was the second biggest drug haul in the country after the confiscation of PHP1
1 billion worth of shabu in Infanta, Quezon in March 2022.
