PNP activates virtual helpline vs. abuse of women, kids

MANILA: The Philippine National Police-Anti Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) on Wednesday said it has activated a virtual helpline to help address concerns related to women and children’s safety, protection and empowerment.

In a statement, ACG chief Maj. Gen. Sidney Hernia said the helpline dubbed “AlengPulis with the CyberSquad” aims to provide assistance and guidance to individuals experiencing abuse, exploitation or harassment, particularly in the online space.

It utilizes various channels, including social media platforms, to reach out to and support those in need.

At present, the top five complaints received by the AlengPulis page are cyberlibel, sextortion, debt collection harassment, online data hacking and internet crimes against children.

One of the successful operations of the “AlengPulis Cybersquad” was the apprehension of the alias “Cyan-cyan,” who posed as a dentist and enticed children with do-it-yourself (DIY) braces in exchange for sexual activities.

The suspect also records a video of the sexu
al acts without the knowledge of the minor victims.

Hernia said the AlengPulis strictly adheres to PNP policies, prioritizing victims’ protection and ensuring their privacy in a safe environment.
