PLANMalaysia sets record for fastest land use planning

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 2 – The Department of Town and Country Planning (PLANMalaysia) has entered the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for the fastest time – 1 hour – to prepare a land use plan for Kuala Kubu Bharu (KKB) themed “From Garden City to Smart Garden City”.

In a statement today, the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) said PLANMalaysia director-general, Dr Shamsaini Shamsuddin, received the certificate from MBOR senior record consultant, Siti Hajar Johor.

PLANMalaysia, which is under KPKT, advises Federal, state and local governments on land use, development and conservation.

The statement said the achievement was thanks to 20 PLANMalaysia and Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) officers, and the Quantum geographic information system (QGIS) software.

“The participants included intelligent city features like intelligent lighting, traffic lights, bins and closed-circuit television CCTV surveillance,” the statement said, while adding that the cadastral map encompassing 1,592.16ha and 6,106 lots was also brought up to date.

KPKT said the focus was on KKB as it was the first new town planned by the government’s first town planner, Charles Compton Reade, in 1924 using the Garden City concept promoted by English urban planner, Sir Ebenezer Howard in 1890.
