Perpetual stuns Letran, grabs lead in NCAA juniors basketball


MANILA: University of Perpetual Help System Dalta stunned defending champion Letran, 94-88, to wrest the lead in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 99 juniors basketball at the Filoil EcoOil Arena in San Juan City on Friday.

Amiel Acido scored 27 points as the Junior Altas claimed their seventh win against one loss. Mark Gojo Cruz had 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists; Jan Pagulayan scored 14 points, including four triples, to go with four assists; while Jhames Daep had 11 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and two steals.

Moses Manalili registered 21 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds for the Squires, who absorbed their second loss in eight outings.

Jovel Baliling delivered five triples to finish with 21 points, Jolo Navarro chipped in 19 points, 11 rebounds and two steals, while Daniel Padilla had 15 points, five steals and three assists.

Perpetual, Letran and Mapua have already earned seats in the Final Four.

In other games, Jose Rizal University defeated San Beda
University, 82-79, while Emilio Aguinaldo College downed Arellano University, 92-87.

Drei Lorenzo paced Jose Rizal with 20 points, seven rebounds and two blocks, while Kirk Canete and Anfrei Ugaddan contributed 19 and 10 points, respectively.

EJ Castillo, on the other hand, had 30 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Alfred Asay added 18 points and 11 rebounds for the EAC.
