Perlis Raja Muda Urges Private Sector To Buy Crafts Associated With State’s Identity

KANGAR, Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail has urged the private and corporate sector to join the Perlis state government in supporting the initiative to buy craft products bearing the state’s identity for their souvenirs and corporate uniforms.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra expressed his hope that craft communities and entrepreneurs in the state, and in Malaysia in general, will continue to excel in crafts so that it will develop in a more dynamic direction.

‘Crafts are part of the cultural arts passed down through the generations and are symbols that unite the people, especially in a multiracial society.

‘Craft making skills can also represent the depth of knowledge and reflect the cultural values of a civilisation,’ the Raja Muda said at the close of the North Crafts Festival 2024 at the Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation’s (Kraftangan Malaysia) Perlis branch near here.

His consort, Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil also graced
the event, along with Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli and Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (MOTAC) deputy secretary-general (management) Datuk Shaharuddin Abu Sohot.

Meanwhile, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra also expressed his wish to see more crafts bearing Perlis identity to be produced and commercialised by entrepreneurs and local craft communities.

The Raja Muda welcomed MOTAC and Kraftangan Malaysia’s efforts to develop the craft industry in Perlis by empowering craft entrepreneurs to remain competitive.

‘I’m happy that Perlis has its unique state-identity product, including the Bunga Harumanis motif in the production of crafts,’ he added.
