Penang Gerakan candidate list ready for endorsement

GEORGE TOWN, Oct 13 (Bernama) — The list of Gerakan candidates who will contest in the 15th general election (GE15) in Penang must first be approved by the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Central Executive Committee (CEC) when it meets in Perak on Saturday.

Penang Gerakan chairman Oh Tong Keong said Gerakan intends to contest four parliamentary seats and 13 state seats in Penang, but this has yet to be endorsed by the PN leadership.

“We are still in discussions, but I believe we will be given more seats for GE15,” he told reporters here today.

Oh, who is also Gerakan deputy president, said the list of Penang candidates will then be sent to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the police for vetting.

In GE14, Gerakan, then with Barisan Nasional (BN) contested 13 state seats and four parliamentary seats in Penang.

On June 23, 2018, Gerakan quit BN after deliberating on political developments following GE14 which saw the fall of the BN government before joining PN in February last year.
