Participating In IIBF 2024 Best Platform For Internationalisation Of Malaysian Works Abroad

JAKARTA, The Malaysian delegation’s participation in the Indonesia International Book Fair (IIBF) 2024, which will be held for five days from today (Sept 25-29), will be the best platform to internationalise Malaysian works abroad.

Malaysian Institute of Translation and Books (ITBM) chief executive officer Sakri Abdullah, who is also head of the Malaysian delegation to IIBF 2024, said it is also an opportunity for the institute to establish strategic collaborations with Indonesian and other international publishers.

Sakri said in addition to that, ITBM can also take advantage of the IIBF, which is themed ‘Internationalising Manuscripts of the Archipelago’ this year, as a business opportunity besides being a medium of exchange for the Nusantara (Archipelago) collection.

‘The Malaysian delegation is committed to promoting national publishing, thus strengthening the good relations of the regional publishing sector, in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s desire to empower critical culture thro
ugh the cultivation of knowledge,’ he said at the Jakarta Convention Centre (JCC) today.

In the meantime, Sakri said in an effort to increase the number of collaborations, ITBM also took advantage of the partnership through the library field as well as cross-culture between Malaysians and Indonesians.

‘The delegation’s participation this time is not only to focus on book publishing but also to strengthen efforts to internationalise the work of Nusantara (archipelago) to form a more sustainable lifestyle as the times change,’ he said.

Meanwhile, in conjunction with IIBF 2024, various events involving the Malaysian delegation will also be held, including the Nusantara Manuscript Internationalisation Seminar held today at the PDS HB Jassin Auditorium, Jakarta Library.

Sakri said in addition, an interview session with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) deputy vice-chancellor (Research and Innovation) Professor Dr Rosalam Sarbatly on the topic ‘Open Science in Asia: Driving Innovation, Collaboration and Transpare
ncy’ will be held tomorrow at the IIBF main stage.

Included in the Malaysian delegation are Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP); Majlis Penerbitan Ilmiah Malaysia (MAPIM); university publishers Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and Universiti Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah (UNIPSAS) as well as book publisher Everbest Media Sdn Bhd.
