P24-M evacuation, livelihood center to rise in Iloilo City

ILOILO CITY: A multipurpose center that will serve as an evacuation center during calamities and economic enterprise for drug dependents will stand to benefit not only those in Barangay Tanza Esperanza but also the other neighboring villages in the City Proper.

The project worth over PHP24 million will be implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways through the office of Iloilo City lone district Rep. Julienne Baronda and Senator Ramon Revilla Jr.

It is expected to be completed before the end of the year.

Baronda said the building will also serve neighboring barangays, namely Tanza Baybay, Tanza Bonifacio, Rizal Estanzuela, and Rizal Pala-Pala.

‘With that, we will no longer use Bonifacio Elementary School in case of calamities so classes will not be affected,’ she said in an interview on Monday.

The lower part of the two-story building can cater for the training and economic enterprise of 20 families of former drug users, while the upper portion will serve as an evacuation center.

Revilla,
during his visit on Saturday afternoon, committed to providing PHP50 million for the construction of a boardwalk adjacent to the project.

Meanwhile, Senator Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go on Sunday visited families affected by Typhoon Egay back in 2013 at the Bakhaw Integrated School in Mandurriao district and distributed an emergency housing assistance program (EHAP) through the National Housing Authority (NHA) at PHP10,000 each.

He also provided food packs, vitamins, hygiene kits, basketball and volleyball.

Go visited the Super Health Center being constructed in the municipality of Pavia.

In an interview, he urged Ilonggos to avail of the one-stop-shop for medical assistance available in Malasakit Centers, four of these are in the city and province of Iloilo.

The two senators visited Iloilo and joined the Dinagyang Festival.
