P2.4-M marijuana plants uprooted in Ilocos Sur

MANILA: The Philippine National Police-Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) has destroyed PHP2.4 million worth of marijuana plants in single-day eradication operations in Ilocos Sur.

In a press release on Sunday, PDEG chief Brig. Gen. Eleazar Matta said law enforcers uprooted 12,000 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants in a land area of 900 square meters in Mt. Bilis, Brgy. Licungan, Sugpon, Ilocos Sur from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Aug. 30.

Nobody was arrested.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation on the same day, Matta said two drug suspects were arrested during a buy-bust operation in Taytay, Rizal.

Suspects Marop Zacarias Guiahod, 32, and Normina Gumaga Bacolong, 36, were arrested at Block 29, Brgy. Sta. Ana, when police operatives seized from them around 500 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated value amounting to PHP3.4 million.

Drug charges are being readied against the two who are now detained at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.
