Over 1K families in Manila evacuate as ‘Kristine’ dumps rains


A total of 1,055 families and seven individuals were evacuated from different barangays in the city of Manila during the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name Trami), the city government said Friday.

Mayor Honey Lacuna, citing the consolidated report from the Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW), said the affected families were brought to various evacuation sites where they were provided with necessities like food, modular tents, and hygiene kits.

She reported that the families came mostly from the first district of Tondo, numbering 574.

In District 1, evacuees from Barangays 128, 101, 20 and 105 were brought to the Delpan Covered Court, Green Building OVP Evacuation Center, Bldg. 3 evacuation center and Barangay 105 covered court.

In District 2 also in Tondo, 39 families from Barangays 199, 200 and 194, and three unattached individuals were brought to village halls and evacuation centers.

In District 3 (Binondo, Quiapo, San Nicolas and Santa Cruz), a total of 136 familie
s and two unattached individuals from Barangay 275 were brought to the Delpan Evacuation Center,

In District 5 (Ermita, Intramuros, Malate, Port Area, San Andres and south Paco), two unattached and 39 families from Barangays 775 and 740 were brought to the multi-purpose hall and barangay hall, respectively.

In District 6 (Paco, Pandacan, San Miguel, Santa Ana and Santa Mesa), the affected familied totaled 286 coming from Barangays 598, 895, 894, 893, 607, 903, 897, 901, 902 and 606. They temporarily stayed at Likha and Damka Evacuation Centers, village halls, covered courts and multi-purpose halls, and the Herminigildo Atienza Elementary School.

As of this writing, MDSW chief Re Fugoso said the families are beginning to return home.
