One relief centre closed, flood evacuees in Batu Pahat drop

The number of flood evacuees in Batu Pahat dropped to 343 people as of 8 pm tonight, compared to 369 people in the afternoon following the closure of the temporary relief centre at Sekolah Agama (SA) Seri Bertam in the district.

The State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) said that the relief centre which had been open since March 2, housing residents from Kampung Haji Kamisan, Taman Selatan, Kampung Parit Lapis Terus and Kampung Haji Mian was closed at 6 pm today.

Four other relief centres sheltering 87 families are still operating, namely Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Seri Medan (156 people), Yong Peng Community Hall (114 people), SA Seri Comel (54 people) and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Hua Min (19 people).

“The state constituency areas in the district that are still affected by floods are Sri Medan, Yong Peng, Parit Yaani and Senggarang,” according to the committee in a statement tonight.

JPBN also informed that the Bekok River at the Bekok Dam is still at the warning level with a reading of 18.98 metres, while the weather in all 10 districts in the state is reported to be cloudy tonight.
