Odour Pollution: 47 Individuals Experience Mild Symptoms As Of Yesterday


JOHOR BAHRU, As of yesterday, 47 individuals were reported to experience mild symptoms following the odour pollution reported in several areas in the Johor Bahru district.

Johor Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said 10 of them went to seek treatment at government and private health facilities.

“Of the 10 people who sought treatment, three were referred to Sultanah Aminah Hospital and Sultan Ismail Hospital, with two of them allowed to go home yesterday, and one still undergoing treatment,’ he said in a statement today.

A series of odour pollution has been reported in several locations in the Johor Bahru district since last Sept 3.

The areas include Kampung Melayu Pandan, Taman Daya, Taman Istimewa, Taman Mount Austin, Kawasan Desa Tropika Industrial, Kampung Maju Jaya, Kampung Tawakal and Kampung Plentong Baru.

an Istimewa, Taman Mount Austin, Kawasan Desa Tropika Industrial, Kampung Maju Jaya, Kampung Tawakal and Kampung Plentong Baru.

According to Ling, the cleaning and disposal of chemical waste found in Tiong Nam Industrial Park and Tropical Industrial Park is expected to be completed on Sept 22.

Meanwhile, State Education and Information Committee chairman Aznan Tamin said that the implementation of the Home-based Teaching and Learning (PdPR) involving three schools, here, following the odour pollution, was extended until today.

The schools are Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kampung Maju Jaya and two private schools, Sekolah Rendah Islam Hidayah dan Sekolah Menengah Islam Hidayah, were ordered to implement PdPR yesterday following the odour pollution.
