Nur Afrina Completes Women’s Sprint Double With Record Run in 200m Final

KUCHING, Selangor’s Nur Afrina Batrisyia Mohamad Rizal completed a sprint double to consolidate her status as the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) speed queen by blitzing to victory in the 200-metre (m) final in a new Games record at the Sarawak Stadium here today.

Still basking from her 100m sprint gold triumph – also in record time – yesterday, the 20-year-old was in her element again today as she romped home in 23.89 seconds (s) to erase the old Games mark of 24.27s set by Perak’s Noor Eewan Syafiah Mohd Sabri at the 2016 edition here.

Terengganu’s Izzatul Musfirah Ahmad Kamal Azira took silver in 24.52s while Sarawak’s Ormilla Octavia Codday Nyadau came in third in 24.94s for bronze.

‘I got the gold medal for Selangor just as I wanted to and I also broke another Games record… I am so happy. I never expected to clock such a fast time.

‘I just stayed focused before the race. I kept calm and didn’t even think about my rivals because this was a race against myself. This success is all because of the support o
f my coaches and family,’ she said.
