NUMBER OF FLOOD EVACUEES IN KANOWIT DECLINING

The number of flood victims housed at the temporary relief centre at Dewan Serbaguna JKKK Ngungun in Kanowit near here continued to drop this afternoon.

A total of 62 people from 29 families are currently taking shelter at the centre, compared to 77 people from 31 families in the morning.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, the centre was opened at 1.30 yesterday after Rumah Nyalong Indet and Rumah Suzusie Lily Jenau in Nanga Baloh and Rumah Langong in Nanga Bat were hit by floods.

The three longhouses are located on the banks of Sungai Ngemah, which overflowed due to continuous rain in the Ulu Ngemah area early Saturday.

Currently, the river water level is on a downward trend.
