NORDIANIS BOUNCES BACK FROM SETBACKS TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS IN NEW VENTURE

JOHOR BAHRU, The enforcement of the Movement Control Order (MCO) several years ago to curb the spread of COVID-19, resulted in the closure of businesses, including the advertising company run by local entrepreneur Nordianis Permin.

For the survival of his family and the 45 employees who relied on her, the mother of two made a bold decision to venture into the food and beverage (FandB) industry, the only business sector allowed to operate during the MCO.

Nordianis said it took her a year to kickstart a new business venture, leading to the introduction of the drink brand Haos Ek? into the local market on June 1, 2021.

‘The main reason I ventured into the FandB business was due to my concern for the fate and well-being of my employees and their family members. I’m grateful for their support when I shared my intention to start this business and I’m thankful they were willing to remain part of the team.

‘Even though I was 41 years old and had only a small amount of experience in FandB at the time, I turned to
my past experiences as a source of valuable lessons to embark on the new business venture,’ she told Bernama when met at his office here recently.

Nordianis’ remarkable efforts garnered recognition from the Johor Government when she was honoured with the Inspirasi Pesona Johor 2024 award during the state-level Women’s Day Celebration on March 3.

Meanwhile, the 44-year-old woman urged more locals, particularly women, to explore entrepreneurship even without prior experience in the field.

‘Many government agencies are available to lend support to those interested in pursuing entrepreneurship, including Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia, TEKUN Nasional, Yayasan Pembangunan Pembangunan Keluarga Darul Ta’zim, the Johor Women’s Development Department, Perbadanan Usahawan Johor, and the State Agriculture Department.

‘These agencies not only provide advisory services and marketing opportunities but also financial assistance for us to start a small business. Therefore, I urge you to seek out the right mentor in your chosen
business field,’ said the Haos Ek? chief executive officer.

The Johor Bahru native also urged women to believe in themselves to run businesses that can elevate not only their own economic status but also that of their families and the wider community.

As of now, Haos Ek? has employed a total of 70 staff and coached 25 new entrepreneurs in the FandB sector.
