New CFO chair takes oath


The Manila Times chairperson and chief executive officer Dante Francis Ang II took oath as the new head of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO).

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin administered the oath of office to Ang in a ceremony. Bersamin’s office shared a photo of Ang’s oath-taking.

Based on the appointment letter signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Oct. 16, Ang replaced former CFO chairperson Romulo Arugay.

Ang first gained work experience as a reporter for the Tulsa Tribune in Oklahoma where he covered state and local politics until 1992.

In 1993, he returned to the Philippines and gained varied related media experience in Kabayan as a public relations consultant for several high-profile politicians for a time, and a foreign service stint as an information officer at the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto.

Ang also served as chairperson of the National Book Development Board and board member of the Clark International Airport Corp.

The CFO, established on June 16, 1980 unde
r Batas Pambansa 79, is an agency under the Office of the President tasked to promote and uphold the interests, rights, and welfare of overseas Filipinos.

It registers and provides pre-departure orientation seminars to emigrants.

The CFO also promotes the transfer of technology, as well as material and financial contributions from overseas for development projects in underserved communities all over the Philippines.
