Neurogine Partners With Seratu Aatai To Safeguard Borneon Elephants, Sabah Biodiversity

LABUAN, Neurogine Sdn Bhd, a leading innovator in financial technology and services, has announced a significant partnership with Pertubuhan Pemuliharaan Biodiversity Seratu Aatai Sabah (Seratu Aatai) aimed at protecting Bornean elephants (Elephas maximus borneensis) and preserving Sabah’s rich biodiversity.

Neurogine chief executive officer Owen Chen Chee Onn emphasised the importance of this partnership during the launch of the ‘Kinabatangan Endangered Species Educational Corner’ and the ‘Elephant Guardian Alliance’ at the Tanjung Aru Marine Ecosystem Centre in Kota Kinabalu on Monday (Aug 12).

‘Neurogine is proud to be the first corporate partner supporting Seratu Aatai’s efforts to protect the endangered Bornean elephant, a crucial species in maintaining the delicate balance of Sabah’s rainforest ecosystem,’ he said.

The event, held in conjunction with World Elephant Day 2024 (WED 2024), was organised by Seratu Aatai in partnership with the Sabah Pangolin Awareness Association (Pangolin Aware) and Exp
lore Gaia Enterprise (Gaia), and is aimed at championing the conservation of the Sunda Pangolin (Manis javanica) and the helmeted hornbill (Rhinoplax vigil).

During the event, Neurogine was recognised as the first corporate partner supporting Seratu Aatai, with Chen being appointed as one of two Nuerogine ambassadors inducted into the new Elephant Guardian Alliance (EGA).

Chen explained that investing in the conservation of the Bornean elephant goes beyond philanthropy.

‘This is part of our commitment to a sustainable future for all. Bornean elephants are eco-engineers whose actions, such as seed dispersal and creating forest clearings, support countless plant and animal species.

‘We urge others to join this cause, as it is a shared responsibility and an investment in the preservation of life in all its forms,’ he said.

Meanwhile, Tanjung Aru assemblyman Datuk Junz Wong Hong Jun, who officiated the launch echoed the call for more corporate and individual participation in conservation efforts.

‘We will b
e the voice to protect our animals, such as the Sunda pangolin and helmeted hornbill, where there is none and take action. I am encouraged that my constituency, Tanjung Aru, is at the heart of such efforts,’ Wong said.

Seratu Aatai director Dr Nurzhafarina Othman, who was also at the launch, congratulated Neurogine for its support, adding that businesses could demonstrate their commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility by aligning with global sustainability and ethical business practices.
