MRT-7 partial operations to begin Q4 2025

MANILA: A 12-station portion of the Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7) will be operational by the final quarter of 2025, an official of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said Tuesday.

These 12 stations include North EDSA, Quezon Memorial Circle, University Avenue, Tandang Sora, Don Antonio, Batasan, Manggahan, Doña Carmen, Regalado Avenue, Mindanao Avenue, Quirino Avenue, and Sacred Heart – all located within Quezon City.

During the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas briefing, DOTr Assistant Secretary for Railways Jorjette Aquino said these 12 stations will be followed by the remaining two stations – Tala Station in Caloocan City and San Jose del Monte Station in Bulacan – by 2026 and 2027, respectively.

‘Magpa-partial operations po tayo ng 12 stations by the end of 2025 at inaasahan naman po na yung [Tala Station] magiging operational by end of 2026 (We will have partial operations with 12 stations by the end of 2025 and we’re expecting Tala Station to be operational by 2026),’ Aquino said.

She said the DO
Tr is working with the San Jose del Monte local government unit (LGU) to ensure that the alignment of the route and positioning of the San Jose del Monte Station will best serve the community.

‘Ongoing ang ating pakikipag-usap sa San Jose Del Monte [LGU]. Nagi-schedule kami this June ng inspection ng DOTr, San Miguel Corporation (SMC) at San Jose LGU para makita ang kanilang proposed alignment at station location (Our talks with the San Jose del Monte LGU is ongoing. We have scheduled this June an inspection with the DOTr, SMC, and the LGU to see their proposed alignment and station location),’ she added.

If talks with the San Jose del Monte LGU go smoothly, Aquino said the alignment of the rail service will be finalized and will result in the San Jose del Monte Station’s completion by 2027.

As of May, the 22-kilometer MRT-7 is at an overall progress rate of 69.86 percent.

Once completed, travel time from Quezon City to San Jose del Monte will be reduced to a 35-minute train ride from the current one-hour
drive.
