MOSTI Initiates STI 100³ Programme Involving 100 Scientists

ARAU, The Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) has launched the initiative for 100 scientists under a programme named STI 100 on the Power of Three (STI 100³) in early October, aimed at increasing the students’ interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

Science Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang said the programme would involve 100 scientists, 100 schools and a 100-day implementation period, which is expected to create a significant impact in boosting the students’ interest in STEM.

“On July 17, the Prime Minister requested that MOSTI identify 100 local scientists to carry out outreach programme at 100 schools,” he said in a speech at the launching ceremony of the Perlis-level National Science Week Carnival 2024 at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Arau here today.

Chang’s speech was read by the Deputy Secretary-General (Planning and Science Enculturation) of MOSTI, Ruziah Shafei, and the ceremony was officiated by the Menteri Besar of Perlis, Moh
d Shukri Ramli.

The science week carnival in Perlis is the fourth after similar events were held in Kuala Lumpur, Kelantan and Penang.

Meanwhile, Mohd Shukri in his opening speech said the programme was an excellent platform to introduce and cultivate interest in the field of technology, especially among students and youths.

“This carnival also aims to bring the target group, particularly students and youths, closer to the world of science and technology, and allow them to showcase their talents in the fields of science, technology and innovation,” he said.

Mohd Shukri also urged teachers to remain actively involved in STI activities and continue supporting the implementation of the National Science Week 2024 through monthly programmes, both physical and online, prepared by MOSTI.

He added that the state government would continue to support and give full commitment to MOSTI, especially in ensuring the success of the National Science Week and Malaysia Techlympics, the National Finals Competition 2024, whi
ch will be held in November in Putrajaya.
