More digital economy centres to be opened in Perak

IPOH, Oct 4 (Bernama) — More Keluarga Malaysia Digital Economy Centres (PEDi) will be opened in Perak following the positive response so far, says political secretary to the Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Datuk Dr Budiman Mohd Zohdi.

He said the additional locations were being identified to achieve the target of having one PEDi in each state constituency in order to improve the socioeconomic of the local community and provide exposure to digital skills.

“A total of 71 PEDi have already been established and started operating in Perak and there are an additional five centres in several areas so it is hoped that the appointment of a PEDi chairman at the grassroots level will help digital literacy efforts as well as to train digital entrepreneurs in Perak,” he said.

He was met by Bernama and RTM after representing the Minister of Communications and Multimedia Tan Sri Annuar Musa at the ceremony to present certificates of appointment to respective PEDi chairmen and a telecommunications briefing with users in the state.

Perak Youth, Sports, Communications and Multimedia Committee chairman Khairul Shahril Mohamed was also present.

At the event, 345 devices were distributed to 23 PEDi throughout the state of Perak for the use of the community around the respective PEDi to promote digital literacy.
