Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the state government will always support any efforts of the central government in the field of renewable energy which is seen to generate not only national income, but also attract more investment into the state.
Therefore, he said the state government will be more committed in introducing more environmentally friendly policies with solid support from the federal government, the private sector and various agencies.
“We will ensure that the process of approval and implementation of these projects is simplified in all local authorities (PBT) and state agencies, as well as provide the necessary infrastructure to support the development of green technology.
“In an effort to achieve this goal, we are also focusing on the development of human capital in renewable energy through the provision of training and education to the younger generation,” he said when speaking at the Cypark Merchang Hybrid Solar Energy project launching ceremony, here today
.
The launching ceremony by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Samsuri said that currently the total renewable energy generation in Terengganu is 1012 MegaWatt (MW) which includes solar, hydro, mini hydro and biogas.
According to him, in the next five years, the state government aims to produce 1,000 MW of solar energy through a floating solar project in Lake Kenyir, Hulu Terengganu.
“This target also includes increasing new energy generation capacity to at least 31 per cent of the country’s total energy generation capacity by 2025,” he said.
