KUALA LUMPUR, The 49th MCA Women’s Annual General Meeting passed five resolutions on party matters, politics, economic matters, education and national policy today.
The resolutions were passed by the 843 delegates attending the meeting at Wisma MCA, Jalan Ampang here after they were debated by 10 delegates from 10 states.
The resolutions seek, among other things, the implementation of party renewal measures to prepare for the general election and to continue MCA’s role as a check and balance to the government.
The MCA Women’s wing is also demanding that all political parties forbid their leaders and members from playing up racial and religious issues to influence the public and threaten public harmony and urged the government to tackle the lack of teachers in schools, as well as further refine the issues related to citizenship.
MCA Women’s chief Datuk Wong You Fong had earlier said in her speech that Malaysia still needed to intensify efforts to achieve gender equality, adding that the Federal Constitutio
n amendment on citizenship that was recently passed in Dewan Rakyat was an important step allowing parents to have the equal rights of bestowing Malaysian citizenship to their children.
‘The amendment is a vital step towards gender equality in Malaysia and this issue is a long standing advocacy fight of MCA Women all this while and efforts towards gender equality must continue, especially in protecting women’s rights,’ she added.
Meanwhile, five other resolutions proposed at the 60th MCA Youth Assembly was passed unanimously by the 328 delegates this afternoon.
The resolutions covered party matters, youth and sports, economic matters, politics and education, and were debated by 13 delegates from nine states.
The MCA Youth are urging the government to review the Anti-Party Hopping Law that is viewed as ineffective and to introduce a better version instead.
They have also expressed their desire that the government draft a complete policy to encourage the e-sports industry by training more excellent players
and to implement programmes in the sector to drive development in e-sports in the country.
The highlight of the 60th MCA General Assembly will take place tomorrow when Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman officiates the assembly.
