Manila archdiocese to hold 2nd collection for storm victims

Manila: Parishes under the Archdiocese of Manila will hold a second collection in all Masses this weekend for those affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name Trami), particularly in the Bicol region and Quezon province.

In Circular 2024-75 dated Oct. 24, Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula asked priests, team ministry moderators and members, rectors, and chaplains to conduct the second collection in morning, afternoon, and evening Masses on Oct. 26 and 27.

‘Kindly remit all collections to the Accounting Office of the Arzobispado de Manila on or before 30 Oct. 2024,’ added the head of the Manila archdiocese.

Advincula also acknowledged parishes and churches that have opened their doors to help those seeking shelter during the onslaught of Kristine.

‘My heart and prayers go out to all those affected by Kristine, particularly in Bicol Region and Quezon Province. We extend our sincere gratitude to the churches and homes that opened their doors to accommodate those affected. The soli
darity among Christians is deeply felt in times like these,’ he said.

‘May we request our priests, consecrated men and women, and lay leaders to continue extending the compassion of the Lord Jesus to the victims, the poor, the hungry, and all those in need.’

The Catholic bishop, meanwhile, noted that the Second Collection for Prison Awareness has been moved to Nov. 3, to give way for the second collection for those affected by the calamity.
