MALAYSIANS’ ENTHUSIASM FOR PARIS 2024 OLYMPICS SOARS, IPSOS SURVEY REVEALS

KUALA LUMPUR, A recent study by Ipsos has revealed overwhelming enthusiasm among Malaysians for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Ipsos, in a statement, said the survey was based on interviews with over 500 adults aged 18 and older in Malaysia and 24,531 online adults under the age of 75 across 33 countries conducted from May 24 to June 7, 2024.

Ipsos Malaysia’s managing director Arun Menon said 73 per cent of Malaysians believe the Paris Games should proceed regardless of the world’s economy and conflicts.

‘About two out of three Malaysians say they are interested in the games, which is much higher than the average of 57 per cent across all countries surveyed.

‘The Paris Games is not only a sporting event for Malaysians. Eight out of 10 Malaysians view it as an opportunity of unity, pride and an inspiration for future generations to engage in sports,’ he said.

Arun said that the Paris Games has a positive and unifying effect on Malaysians and excitement among the people about the games is high.

‘Therefore, it
should not be stopped by the wars and conflicts,’ he said.

According to Arun, the survey also revealed that badminton is the most anticipated sport among Malaysians, with 58 per cent expressing keen interest, surpassing the global average of 28 per cent.

Besides that, football also ranks high, with 35 per cent of Malaysians showing interest compared to the 28 per cent average across the surveyed countries.

The Paris Olympics is scheduled to run from July 26 to Aug 11.
