Malaysia To Host ICAN2024, Marking Significant Milestone In International Aviation Diplomacy

PUTRAJAYA, The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Air Services Negotiation Event 2024 (ICAN2024) is set to convene in Malaysia from Oct 21 to 25, marking a pivotal moment in international aviation diplomacy.

Hosted by the Ministry of Transport (MOT), this prestigious event will bring together global aviation leaders, policymakers, and industry experts to engage in high-level negotiations, aimed at advancing global air connectivity.

‘ICAN2024 serves as a premier platform for ICAO member states to negotiate air services agreements and traffic rights efficiently.

‘These agreements are fundamental to the development of international air transport, enhancing access to new markets, expanding tourism, and driving economic growth for all participating nations,’ said MOT in a statement today.

As the aviation industry continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, MOT said ICAN2024 offers a timely opportunity to support the resurgence of international air travel.

‘The conference will help shape the
future of aviation, with discussions addressing critical topics such as sustainability, digital transformation, and safety in air transport,’ it said, adding over 80 countries expected to attend the event.

MOT said ICAN2024 will elevate Malaysia’s status as a leading hub for aviation diplomacy while providing significant opportunities for tourism and business development.

‘This event will also allow Malaysia to showcase its world-class aviation infrastructure, service capabilities, and renowned hospitality, fostering new partnerships and collaborations for future growth,’ it said.

According to MOT, among the key highlights of ICAN2024 is Air Services Negotiations as the international event enables nations to conduct multiple air services negotiations in one location, providing an efficient and cost-effective method for reaching agreements that enhance global air connectivity.
