Mahkota By-election: BN Candidate Must Be Accepted By Voters – Zambry

KEPALA BATAS, The candidate to be fielded for the upcoming Mahkota state by-election must be someone who is accepted by voters in the constituency, said Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.

Zambry, who is also a member of the UMNO Supreme Council, confirmed that he has received several names for consideration, including three from the party’s divisions, as well as the women’s and youth wings.

However, he said the party has not yet made a decision on the candidate, and BN Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will announce the matter soon.

‘What is important is that the candidate representing BN must be someone accepted by the voters,’ he told reporters after officiating the Global Trends in Engineering, Science and Technology Congress 2024 (GTEST2024) here today.

Earlier, Wanita UMNO chief Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said the wing had suggested the names of three of its members for consideration by the party leadership as the BN candidate for the Mahkota by-election
.

The Election Commission has set Sept 28 as polling day for the by-election in Johor, while the nomination and early voting dates are Sept 14 and 24, respectively.

The by-election was called following the death of the incumbent assemblyman, Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, on Aug 2.
