PUTRAJAYA: The lowest starting salary for government positions listed on the Public Service Commission (SPA) website is scheduled to be updated on December 1, according to its chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Jailani Muhamed Yunus. This update aligns with the introduction of the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA), which mandates an increase in the lowest starting salary to RM1,500.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the SSPA will replace the Malaysian Remuneration System (SSM) starting December 1. Dr Ahmad Jailani stated that once the Public Service Department (JPA), the policy maker, sets the implementation date for the SSPA as per the circular, SPA will revise the information on its website. He addressed this during the SPA Open Day @ Putrajaya 2024 event, responding to inquiries about the delay in updating the salary rates on the SPA website to reflect the latest government policy.
Furthermore, Dr Ahmad Jailani highlighted that SPA has received around 1.14 million applications for public service roles
, reflecting a growing interest among the public in becoming civil servants. “With a high number of applications, we have a better opportunity to select candidates with exceptional integrity and competence to serve the government,” he added.
