Langkawi CCOP Conference Platform For Sharing Latest Geoscience Applications Technology.


PUTRAJAYA: The 60th Annual Session and 83rd Coordinating Committee For Geoscience Programmes (CCOP) Steering Committee Meeting in Langkawi, Kedah is a strategic platform for sharing the latest geoscience applications technology. The Nov 3-8 conference, officiated by Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) deputy secretary-general (Natural Resources) Norsham Abdul Latip today, brings together 250 geoscience members from 27 countries and various international organisations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Department of Minerals and Geosciences (JMG) director-general Datuk Zamri Ramli emphasized that the conference serves as an essential platform to discuss the directions, challenges, and innovative strategies in sharing knowledge for economic prosperity and universal well-being. He highlighted Malaysia’s commitment to advancing geological resource management, effective geological disaster risk reduction, and global collaboration in climate change mitigation.

Malaysia has been a
proactive participant in CCOP since 1996, under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP). CCOP currently consists of 16 member countries, 14 cooperating partners, and 19 international organisations. Zamri noted that the conference is structured into three thematic sessions focusing on ‘Geoscience for Sustainable Future,’ ‘Energy Transition,’ and ‘Climate Change and Disaster Resilience’.

The event will feature the presentation of 69 technical papers by industry players, intellectuals, policy-makers, and representatives from local and international governmental and non-governmental bodies. Additionally, the conference will showcase products and services from leading companies and agencies in the field of minerals and geoscience.
