K’tan govt provides RM50 million grant to upgrade KIAS

KOTA BHARU, Jan 23 — The Sultan Ismail Petra International Islamic University College (KIAS) in Nilam Puri here will be upgraded to a full-fledged university five years from now.

Towards this end, the Kelantan government has allocated a RM50 million grant, said Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah.

He said the distribution of the grant will be done in stages with RM10 million to be disbursed annually.

“We hope that upgrading KIAS to a full-fledged university will attract more students, including international students with an enrolment rate of between 10 and 15 per cent every intake,” he said in a ceremony held in conjunction with KIAS’ 20th anniversary here today.

KIAS is currently offering 18 programmes at certificate, diploma and degree levels.
