KPJ Healthcare Launches Malaysia’s First Academic Health System

KUALA LUMPUR, KPJ Healthcare Berhad (KPJ Healthcare) has launched the KPJ Academic Health System (KPJ Health System), the first initiative of its kind in Malaysia.

KPJ Healthcare in a statement said the system, launched during the second day of the Malaysia International Healthcare (MIH) Megatrends 2024 conference, integrates education and research within hospital settings, transforming them into centres of learning and discovery where practice and innovation converge. This initiative aligns with Malaysia’s national healthcare agenda to build a world-class healthcare system.

KPJ Healthcare University (KPJU) chairman Datuk Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim, highlighting the new direction in healthcare, emphasised the need to rethink and reimagine healthcare.

‘It is no longer just about providing treatments-hospitals must evolve beyond being mere treatment centres.

‘They must embrace cutting-edge solutions such as AI-driven diagnostics and personalised medicine and shift the focus towards preventive care and overal
l wellbeing, creating a more sustainable healthcare system,’ he said during the event, officiated by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad and attended by KPJ Healthcare chairman Tan Sri Dr Ismail Bakar, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre yesterday.

According to the statement, KPJ Health System aims to improve patient outcomes, drive continuous professional development for healthcare providers, and support research that addresses current and future healthcare challenges, positioning KPJ Healthcare as a leader in healthcare advancement.

Through adopting transformative technologies such as AI, quantum computing, and nanomedicine, KPJ Healthcare is establishing a new benchmark in quality healthcare across Malaysia.

This initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to advancing healthcare access, reducing disparities, and developing specialised care centres to handle complex cases, thereby strengthening the nation’s healthcare infrastructure.

A soft launch of the KPJ Health System was held a
week prior, introducing key internal stakeholders to its goals. The system’s integrated approach, guided by the principles ‘to heal, to teach, and to discover,’ aims to benefit not only KPJ’s patients and staff but also the broader community by prioritising research and education.

This initiative reflects KPJ Healthcare’s ‘Care for Life’ philosophy, promoting collaboration across sectors to elevate patient care and set new standards in the industry.

MIH Megatrends 2024, the country’s premier healthcare event, is organised by the Ministry of Health Malaysia in collaboration with KPJ Healthcare and in strategic partnership with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

The event brings together global healthcare leaders, professionals, innovators, and policymakers to discuss advancements, share knowledge, and build partnerships focused on improving the quality, accessibility, and sustainability of healthcare in Malaysia.
