KLBA TO PICK 320 PLAYERS FROM ‘JEJAK JUARA 2024’ FOR TRAINING

KUALA LUMPUR, A total of 320 players who participated in the ”2024 Jejak Juara” closed badminton championships will be absorbed into training programmes conducted by the Kuala Lumpur Badminton Association (KLBS) soon.

KLBA president Datuk Seri Dr Jahaberdeen Mohamed Yunoos said those to be selected were among the 2,600 players who took part in the championships, which began on June 10.

He said the selected players would train under the guidance of coaches at four designated district training centres (PLD) – Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kepong Baru (PLD Sentul), SMK Sri Pantai (PLD Bangsar), SMK Seri Bintang Selatan (PLD Pudu) and SMK Wangsa Melawati (PLD Keramat).

‘KLBA has observed and assessed 320 talented players and they will be absorbed into the four existing training centres. Out of this number, 94 players who excel will be absorbed into the KLBA elite squad,’ he said.

Jahaberdeen told Bernama this after the closing ceremony of the championships at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall Badminton Arena
in Cheras here today.

He said KLBA remains committed to using the championships to produce players who could be groomed into outstanding internationals.

The Jejak Juara Project, which runs from 2022 to 2027, is aimed at producing a pool of high-performing players so that Malaysia will not have to rely only on several players on the international stage.

‘I also spotted many talents among the women’s players at this tournament who could be groomed for the future,’ he added.
