KOTA KINABALU: Sabah FC head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee has chosen not to extend his contract with the team when it expires this month. In a statement today, Kim Swee said the first match of the Round of 16 in the Malaysia Cup against PT Athtelic FC, scheduled for this Saturday (Nov 23), will be his last as the coach of Sabah FC.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kim Swee thanked Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Sabah Football Association president Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, and the senior management of Sabah FC for their trust and full support during his time leading the team. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the club, highlighting the extraordinary journey over his 36-month tenure.
On November 5, the Sabah Football Association (SAFA) and Sabah FC reportedly offered to extend Kim Swee’s contract until the end of the 2024/2025 season in April next year, following his impressive performance with the team. Despite the offer, Kim Swee decided to conclude his role with the club, while expressi
ng appreciation for his support staff’s tireless efforts and commitment, which he credited as instrumental to the team’s achievements.
Kim Swee also conveyed his heartfelt thanks to the supporters, acknowledging their crucial role in the club’s spirit, whether present in the stadium or cheering from afar. He affirmed his continued support for Sabah FC, expressing hope for the club’s ongoing progress and success.
