malaysiangPUTRAJAYA, Jan 7 — Childcare centres under the Community Development Department (Kemas) situated at flood-hit areas, will be used as a one-stop centre to check those eligible for post-flood home restoration assistance, said Rural Development (KPLB) Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.
For a start, he said officers from KPLB would be at Tabika Kemas Bukit Changgang in Banting, Selangor for three days starting this Tuesday to facilitate registration and verification process.
“The public will be notified of the dates for other locations from time to time through KPLB official website and social media,” he said in a statement today.
He said currently a census is being carried out on the number of houses in need of repairs or rebuilding and the restoration works would proceed once the census data was complete.
He said all applications for home repairs from household heads must be submitted through the District Disaster Operations Control Centre (PKOB) and district office before being confirmed and registered by the Prime Minister’s Department, Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU).
“The duration for the repair and restoration works by the implementing agency will depend on the extent of damage, while for house reconstruction the time taken is between three to four months depending on the site preparation,” he said.
According to Mahdzir, KPLB has also mobilised all Village Development and Security Committee heads to help collect data on residents affected by the flood disaster for submission to the district PKOB.
Under the KPLB Housing Assistance Programme, he said an allocation of RM15,000 has been provided for house repairs and RM56,000 for building a new house in the peninsula and RM68,000 in Sabah and Sarawak.
“I was informed that today KPLB has started the damage assessment, and the repair works will start tomorrow on nine houses in Kuala Klawang and Chennah in Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan,” he said.
