KELANTAN SUKMA CONTINGENT TO TARGET 57 MEDALS IN SARAWAK

KOTA BHARU, The Kelantan SUKMA contingent are targeting a total of 57 medals at the upcoming Sarawak Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in August this year.

State Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Committee chairman Zamakhshari Muhamad, said that the target for Kelantan athletes is inclusive of securing 22 gold medals in this edition of the games.

“We will participate in 31 of the 37 sports contested in this SUKMA and will be sending a total of 472 athletes,” he told Bernama today.

He was optimistic that Kelantan will improve its position in this SUKMA overall medal tally compared to last year when they ranked second to last in the games held in Kuala Lumpur.

During the SUKMA 2022 in Kuala Lumpur, the Kelantan contingent aimed for 13 gold medals but only managed to secure three gold, eight silver and 21 bronze medals, placing them at the 14th position out of the 15 competing states.

Zamakhshari said that currently, sports associations responsible for this event are actively training and preparin
g their athletes to contribute medals to the Kelantan contingent.

“The targets are set based on the current performance of the athletes through several previous competitions and athlete preparations has been ongoing since the beginning of the year.

“I hope the target can be achieved with the cooperation and dedication of the Kelantan State Sports Council, sports associations and athletes,” he said.
