KAZAKHSTAN OPEN: AZEEM FAHMI, SHEREEN THROUGH TO MEN’S 100M, WOMEN’S 400M FINALS


KUALA LUMPUR, National sprinters Muhammad Azeem Fahmi and Shereen Samson Vallabouy kept their Paris Olympics dreams alive after they qualified for the finals of their respective events at the Kazakhstan Open, scheduled to take place tonight.

Fahmi won the third heat of the men’s 100 metre (m) with a time of 10.61 seconds (s), ahead of Turkish sprinter Ertan Okzan (10.72s) while Vitaliy Zems of Kazakhstan finished third with 10.84s.

Shereen meanwhile romped into the finals of the women’s 400m after winning the first heat with a time of 54.16s, beating Anna Shumilo (56.58s) and (57.76s), both of Kazakhstan.

Our national sprinters will need to emerge victorious in tonight’s finals for them to have a shot at appearing in the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.
