Judiciary extends condolences to family members of Mohamad Jemuri

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26 — The Malaysian Judiciary has extended its condolences to the family members of former chief judge of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Mohamad Jemuri Serjan, who passed away this morning due to old age.

According to a media statement from the Corporate Communications Division of the Office of the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court, members of the judiciary prayed that Allah showers blessings, grants forgiveness and places the soul of the late Mohamad Jemuri among the righteous and pious.

Mohamad Jemuri, 95, died at the Normah Medical Specialist Centre in Kuching, Sarawak, at about 8.30 am, and was safely buried at the Kampung Pinang Jawa Islamic Cemetery at 3 pm.

He had four sisters and was the only son of Serjan Wakijan and Jede Othman. He never got married.

Mohamad Jemuri was the fifth and final chief justice of Borneo, holding the post from March 11, 1991, to June 23, 1991, before being appointed as the first chief judge of Sabah and Sarawak from June 24, 1991, to Sept 9, 1994.

He began his career as a Magistrate on June 1, 1965, before being appointed as the assistant attorney-general on Nov 8, 1966 and as the Sarawak state attorney-general in 1973, a post he held until his retirement in 1984.

However, he was offered a contractual post as a Supreme Court Judge on Dec 31, 1989, before becoming the chief judge of Sabah and Sarawak.
