Johor Sets New Livestock Target Of 200,000 By 2027

BATU PAHAT, The Johor government aims to increase livestock numbers to 200,000 by 2027, having successfully reached a livestock production total of 152,000 as of September this year.

State Agriculture, Agro-based Industry and Rural Development Committee chairman Datuk Zahari Sarip said the initial five-year key performance indicator (KPI) target was set at 170,000 livestock, but due to encouraging production, this has been raised to 200,000.

‘The previous target is expected to be met by the end of this year or early next year, and we have discussed new targets with the Menteri Besar,’ he said after the launch of the Sri Medan Farmers’ Organisation (PPK) Slaughterhouse and Processing Centre here today.

Also present were Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, who officiated the ceremony and Johor Islamic Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid.

Zahari outlined three key steps to meet the new target – encouraging farmers to register with the Veterinary Department, conducting regular monitoring and p
roviding support to farmers.

He added that the state government has allocated RM850,000 for the construction of the Sri Medan PPK slaughterhouse, which is expected to handle five to 30 slaughterings per day.

Earlier, in his speech Onn Hafiz said the state has invested RM54 million since 2022 to enhance food security and boost the agriculture and ruminant sectors.
