Johor MB welcomes Singapore suggestion to set short and medium term targets for RTS Link project

SINGAPORE, Feb 14 (Bernama) — The Menteri Besar of Johor has welcomed Singapore Transport Minister S. Iswaran’s suggestion to set short and medium term targets for the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project.

In his Facebook posting, Datuk Onn Hafiz, who is currently on a three-day official visit to Singapore since Sunday, said the targets are necessary to ensure that the project remains on track.

The RTS Link project is expected to be completed in 2026.

“We agreed that the RTS is a priority for both countries. It is important not just for business logistics, but also to improve the relationship between Malaysia and Singapore,” he said in the posting.

In the meeting with the Singapore minister, Onn Hafiz said he repeated the recent commitment made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to add motorcycle lanes for the Custom, Immigration, Quarantine (CIQ) Complex at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI).

“The Johor Causeway is among the busiest land crossings in the world, with over 300,000 Malaysians using it daily for work back and forth from Johor Bahru,” he noted.

The Johor Menteri Besar said he shared the premier’s view on widening access to the PLUS highway in Johor.

“Surely if this is realised, it will benefit the business community in Singapore who want to invest in Malaysia,” he added.

He also noted the suggestion for a ferry service from Puteri Harbour to Tuas to ease the congestion at the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link.

Apart from Iswaran, Onn Hafiz met with Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu, where they talked about carbon credit, food security, cleanliness of rivers, and flood mitigation.

In a packed schedule, Onn Hafiz also held a session with the Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF), which he described as “very positive.”

As a result, he said the SMF will send a mission to visit Johor soon to explore investment opportunities.
