JKT, JPJ To Discuss Addressing Abandoned Vehicles – Nga

PUTRAJAYA, The Local Government Department (JKT) and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) will meet to discuss the best legal mechanism to deal with the issue of abandoned vehicles.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said that among the things that need to be refined is the jurisdiction of the local government authority (PBT) to tow abandoned vehicles and the problems f in identifying the vehicle owners.

“I understand that if it exceeds a certain period, then the PBT has the authority to take (tow) the vehicles away.

“It’s just that we have to study with the Road Transport Act (1987) and see how PBT under the legal framework can implement the matter,” he told a press conference at the pre-launch of the Malaysian Clean Up Day 2024 here, today.

He said this in response to a recent report by a local newspaper which stated some 2,112 vehicles are left abandoned in 64 Public Housing and People’s Housing Projects.

Nga advised the public against abandoning their unused vehicles as they could cau
se various problems such as obstructing traffic, insufficient parking space and pollution.
