Jail visitations to continue this Holy week

MANILA: The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) has beefed up preparations to ensure the safety and security of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) in its facilities nationwide for the Holy Week.

In a statement Wednesday, BJMP chief Jail Director Ruel Rivera said jail visitations would continue to give PDLs the chance to spend the occasion with their loved ones.

All BJMP-manned facilities will also be placed on high alert status, Rivera added.

He said the BJMP has also coordinated with religious leaders to organize various activities, including Masses, recollections, and religious processions.

Meanwhile, PDLs are prohibited from practicing self-flagellation to safeguard their health and well-being.

Rivera also directed jail officials to ensure uninterrupted provision of essential supplies such as food, water, and medical necessities during the observance.

Jail wardens were to oversee the preparedness of jails, including measures to address summer-related health concerns.
